Blue Science New Materials

Carbon fiber prepreg can be processed into various shapes and sizes according to the different design requirements of sports equipment. For example, when manufacturing bicycle frames, the prepreg can be cut into specific shapes based on the structural and mechanical requirements of the frame, and then molded using molds to achieve complex geometric designs. This designability allows for precise control and optimization of the appearance and performance of sports equipment.

In terms of sports equipment, carbon fiber reinforced composite materials (prepreg) are mainly used in the following areas:

1. Golf clubs
Golf clubs made from carbon fiber prepreg can reduce weight by about 10 to 40%. According to the law of conservation of momentum, this can give the ball a greater initial velocity. They have high damping characteristics, which can extend the hitting time and allow the ball to be hit further.

2. Fishing rods
Fishing rods made from carbon fiber reinforced composite materials are much lighter than fiberglass products or bamboo rods, which means they consume less energy when casting and can cast about 20% further than the latter. Carbon fiber fishing rods are long and strong, with high rigidity, and can quickly return to shape after bending, making them sensitive in transmitting the feel of the bait. Carbon fiber prepreg can also be used to make fishing gear reels, which have high fatigue strength, are wear-resistant, and thus have a long service life.

3. Tennis rackets
Tennis rackets made from prepreg are light and strong, with high rigidity and low strain, which can reduce the deviation when the ball contacts the racket.

4. Racing cars
Pipes made from prepreg can be used to manufacture frames for racing cars or general bicycles, characterized by their light weight, reducing weight by about 50% compared to steel frames, thus reducing the total weight of the bicycle by 15%.
Carbon fiber and fiberglass mixed reinforced composite materials can be used to manufacture off-road racing cars, characterized by their light weight.

5. Snowboards
Snowboards made from carbon fiber reinforced composite materials are characterized by high rigidity and wear resistance, requiring less force on the feet during turns, slopes, and cross-country races. Carbon fiber ski poles are also well-known in the sports world, characterized by high rigidity and light weight.

In addition to the above uses, carbon fiber reinforced composite materials can also be used to manufacture springboards for powered snow sleds, bows, arrows, pole vaults, hockey sticks, yachts, rowing boats, rowing oars, sailboat masts, motorcycle parts, mountaineering equipment, as well as gliders and human-powered aircraft.
